Recycling Masterclass
Self-paced online video course or online/in-person live sessions with our experts.
What is CIRCPACK’s Masterclass programme?
As part of the Recycling Academy, we provide the Recycling Masterclass to support organisations in navigating the recycling and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) landscape. It delivers independent, material-agnostic expertise to help teams understand current industry challenges and prepare for what is coming.
Three ways to take it:
- Recorded sessions: an introduction to household packaging recycling and the legislative context, taken at your own pace, with a live one-to-one call at the end. Covered in full on the online self-learning page.
- Online live sessions: three lessons presented live. The content is adjustable, we incorporate your packaging examples, and you can ask questions and steer the direction as we go. A fourth one-to-one session picks up everything that remains. For corporate leadership, the (Non-)executive Masterclass is the concise boardroom version.
- In-person workshop with a site visit: we visit one of Veolia’s operational sorting facilities to see the processes, the challenges, and how packaging design influences sorting, then host a workshop tailored to your needs (recycling, sorting, EPR, PPWR and more).
What the sessions cover:
Session 1, Collection and Sorting: how household packaging is collected and sorted across European systems, and the technologies (NIR, eddy current, optical, manual) behind each.
Session 2, Reprocessing, Design and Certification: what happens to each material in reprocessing (plastics, glass, metals, paper and cardboard, food and beverage cartons), which technologies are used, where design choices limit reprocessing, and the Design for Recycling guidelines and certification schemes built on them (RecyClass, CERTIFY, RECY:CHECK).
Session 3, Extended Producer Responsibility: how EPR works, how fees are calculated, how eco-modulation translates recyclability into a fee level, and how the system differs from country to country and has developed over time.
Session 4, the one-to-one session: a dedicated live session to put your questions to our experts.

Frequently asked questions.
Both. Most clients prefer an in-person day at their office so engineers can bring real packs to the session. Remote delivery works for distributed teams and uses the same modules.
Yes, see the Tailored Masterclass for a version built around your specific packaging portfolio and your employees' starting knowledge level.
Yes, the (Non-)executive Masterclass is a concise boardroom briefing focused on PPWR penalties, EPR cost trajectories and brand exposure.
Attendees keep the slides and references. We offer optional 90-minute clinics on live packaging briefs, and our consulting team can pick up specific portfolio questions as a separate engagement.
